EUROPA REPORT 2013 | MOVIE REVIEW | MOVIE EXPLAINED

Europa Report is a sci fi ,drama, thriller movie released in year 2013. The movie is rated 6.4/10 on IMDB (65K reviews). We can get some clue from the rating about the popularity of a particular movie. Europa Report is also not an exception.

Europa is space shuttle which was funded by a private fund. The time line of movie is something around 2300 AD. In future we will be able to travel farther than mars. A group of astronauts ventures for the discovery of the life on Europa (one of the Jupiter's moons). The concept of the movie is really good but the way in which it is picturised is very disappointing. There are moments where the movie becomes dull and loses the spark. It becomes boring sometimes and the set of the movie ( interiors of the space shuttle does not feel real ).

Anyhow the movie goes like this.They lose some of their crew members due to some miss happenings. However they land on the Europa but just before that due to solar surge they lose communication with the control room ( on Earth). The whole movie is like a documentary and the surviving crew members are actually stating their memoirs like we see in some of the discovery channel shows. This is something most people did not like about this movie and this is reason why this movie did not gain much popularity despite having such an wonderful story.

After the crew lands on th Europa Satellite the movie becomes live somehow. They get to know that there is some kind of mysterious organism on this satellite under the thick ice cover. But they kept the audience in suspense and did not show the real face of the organism until the very end. In the end when the lander of the crew is stuck in the ice due to some opening in the bottom of the lander the water starts to flow inside the the lander and we get to see a octopus like organism with some bio luminescence properties ( Their body has developed light emitting tissue system as they live inside the dark sea under the ice cover ).

This is the final and single shot of the organism and after that some of the crew members are rescued somehow ( though it is not shown in the movie But we have to assume it as the surviving members are shown giving their interviews ).

Verdict : The concept of the movie is really good and provoking but it is again Direction and picturisation that matters the most . Even the simple movies with excellent direction have drawn the attention of masses. Most people believe that movie could have done better if the story was in-line and not in a documentary format. Flashing the movie to and fro between "pre launch",  "post launch" and "documentary part" is somehow irritating for most of the audience.
